Healthy Smoothie Drink Recipes for Summer

Healthy Smoothie Drink Recipes for Summer

When it's too hot to crank on the oven or cook real food, we're all about easy and COOL healthy smoothies for breakfast, lunch, or even dinner (our kind of "girl dinner," IYKYK).

And because we're us, we're taking every opportunity to sneak in some fresh fruit and some of our frozen pops into any smoothie drink recipe we can - because we love a basic smoothie, but adding some creaminess takes things up to a delicious new level.

Erewon $18 smoothies, who? Those beautiful but crazy expensive drinks got nothing on these healthy smoothie recipes - try for yourself and see.

Why We Choose to Make Smoothies Plant-Based

All of our favorite smoothie drink recipes are naturally plant-based and vegan. Though you definitely don't have to be a vegan to enjoy. In fact, most of our babes aren't!

There are still some serious perks to choosing non dairy treats. And when made right, like with these yummy smoothie drink recipes, you won't miss the dairy or even know it's missing.

If you're like many, dairy doesn't always agree with your digestive system, and in fact a whopping 65% of the total population have difficulty processing lactose, found in milk. In certain groups of people, such as those from East Asia or of West African, Arab, Jewish, Greek, or Italian descent, these numbers are even higher - in some cases up to 100%!

When we first began experimenting with homemade sorbet recipes back in the early days of what would become SorBabes, we knew immediately our goodies would be happily, accidentely vegan! Traditional sorbet is dairy-free already, and chef and co-founder Deborah knew from her chef days that dairy actually blocks flavor receptors on the tongue. Making our treats dairy-free would create the maximum indulgence and explosive flavor (yes, chef!)

If you're looking to stay cool, add some fruit into your day, or simply enjoy indulging in a fresh, fruity healthy smoothie - be it for breakfast or dessert - here are some of our favorite smoothie drink recipes, some using a SorBabes bar for a serious extra dose of yum.

SorBabes Strawberry Banana Smoothie

  • 1/2 fresh or frozen banana
  • 1 Strawberry Crisp SorBabes frozen fruit bar
  • Handful of fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup plant-based milk of choice

Blend all ingredients in a high-speed blender until combined and smooth. May add more or less milk depending on the desired texture. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

Wildberry-Berry Smoothie

  • 1-2 cups of soymilk or your choice of milk
  • 1-2 SorBabes Wildberry frozen fruit bars
  • 1 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries
  • Whipped cream topping, optional

Add all ingredients to a blender (removing the pops from the sticks, first!). Blend until smooth and pour into a glass or two - this makes 1-2 servings. Top with whipped cream topping if you'd like!

Bonus: Vanilla Caramel "Latte"

Ok, ok, is it really a healthy smoothie recipe? We won't nit pick if you don't. If you're wanting to bulk up the "healthy" side to this smoothie recipe, add a half frozen banana and a scoop of protein powder and blend till smooth. Otherwise, consider it a healthier Starbucks frapp dupe, and enjoy.

  • 1 SorBabes Vanilla Caramel Crunch bar
  • Plant-based milk of choice
  • Caramel

Rim a glass with a spoonful or two of caramel sauce. Then, crush your Vanilla Caramel Crunch bar (stick removed) in the bottom of the glass. Fill with your choice of plant-based milk and stir thoroughly to combine. If desired, add all ingredients to a blender and blend with add-ins like frozen banana or protein powder.
